Time for Daddy

Rick finally had some time off from work and we decided to go crazy. We went to the beach, saw family, hunted black widows, and even went to Sea World. It was nice to spend some time with him. A few weeks later we went to a ward activity where they did a family Olympics. Rick won gold for diaper changing.

First Day of T-K

So when we left Utah I kidnapped my mom. She came and helped me unpack and then caught a flight home. Luckily she didn’t have to leave until Katie’s first day of T-K.

In California they offer a Transitional Kindergarten for anyone who’s birthday falls between September and December of the year that misses the cut off for kindergarten. This was frustrating because the state law said that for this school year the cut off was Oct 1st but our school districted had elected to take the following year’s cut off early which was Sept 1st. This meant that Katie couldn’t start Kindergarten and would have to do another year of preschool. As a mom I was so frustrated because she had already done 2 years of preschool and we expected her to start kindergarten.

Anyway just after Katie’s birthday in September they did an assessment on her and found that she was advanced for her T-K class. So much so that they had her skip the grade and move in to Kindergarten. When upon arriving in Kindergarten they did another assessment to see where she was compared to the rest of the class. This assessment came back that she was advanced in her writing, reading, and math skills thus placing her at the top of her new class. We are so proud of her and she is loving being in Kindergarten even if she is the youngest by over a full year.

Visit home

So we had only been in California for a few weeks when I loaded the kids back into the car for the 10 hour drive back to Utah. We had planned to go around this time but circumstances changed where we went a little earlier than planned.

My aunt Pearl Ann had been fighting breast cancer and unfortunately passed away. She was a remarkable woman. I spent lots of time at her house growing up and learned a few lessons from her for sure. It was really hard knowing I wouldn’t see her at family functions anymore but I was glad that she didn’t have to suffer any longer. She was a good woman and is worth missing. Anyway so I decided to travel a little early to see if there was anything I could do to help with the funeral.  It was a beautiful service.

While we were in Utah it was Spanish Fork Fiesta Days. Which includes a caravel, car show, parade, and rodeo to name a few activities. My mom and I decided to enter the boys into the Baby Contest. It was  cheap 8x10 print by a professional photographer. I am not a pageant mom I promise. Low and behold guess who won. BRADY!!! He was  a little charmer. He sang 5 little monkeys for the judges and talked about grandpa’s tractor. I was really surprised when they said his name at the park. I was just there to pick up the picture. So Brady and I got to ride on a float for the big parade. He loved it since the float was really a pontoon boat. He thought he needed to drive it down the street. I will say that being in the parade is not as much fun as watching the parade but it was fun watching Brady wave to everyone that we saw.

So there you have it I have proof that my kid is cute!!!

Oh and in the parade they had 2000 stripling warriors, which included some of my cousins. How cool was that!
