What are we going to do…. Katie is 2!!!!

 

I can’t believe that Katie is 2 already. Time really does fly when you are having fun!

Some stats about Katie:

She weighs 22.5 lbs and is 33.5 inches tall according to the doctor’s office today. She is really skinny and just above average for her height.  She still has curly blond hair and bright blue eyes

She knows all of her colors including black and white and when asked she will say that blue is her favorite. She is learning how to count but always forgets one and starts with the number 2.

Her favorite saying at the moment is “I had it first.”

She loves to do summersaults and run where ever she is going.

She occasionally will take an afternoon nap but it depends on the day.

She loves the movie CARS. She says Mac is her favorite character.

She is addicted to anything with water and loves blowing bubbles.

Her favorite book is the “Shark” book that grandma reads to her while talking via webcam.

She is such a daddy’s girl. She will practically do anything he asks and goes running to him any time he is around.

She is working on potty training but it depends on the day. She mostly enjoys running to the bathroom but thinks she needs to take off all of her clothes to use the potty. She then proceeds to streak about the house until she is ready to get dressed again. Thankfully she is more modest in public.

 

I got up early and took pictures of the sunrise so Katie will always know what the day was like when she turned 2. She slept in until 8:45 so I was able to prep for the party while she slept.

I was going to have a one or two friends over for a play date for Katie’s birthday but decided to throw a party. This is the last time that it is all about her and she doesn’t have to worry about a little brother being in the picture. So I went from simple to having about 25 people at the house. I did have the party at 9:30 in the morning which was amazing that we were even remotely ready that early in the day.  

   

I would like to note that I decorated the cupcakes and cake by flashlight because the power was out the night before.

It was fun to watch her open presents. We have attended a lot of parties lately so she knew exactly what those cute bags were for.

 

Katie’s friends were very generous and she got a load of stuff!

After the party she decided to enjoy the day playing with her new gifts. She decided she wanted to wear some PJ’s and so she switched clothes and started coloring with her new markers. She is such a funny girl.

Granny and grandpa came over when Rick got out of school and then we set up a webcam conference with the extended family in Utah. It included my parents and Katie’s great grandma on one computer, my sister on another computer, and Josh, Mikayla  and Sarah (Rick’s older brother’s family) on the third.  They all signed in to watch Katie open presents, sing happy birthday, and watch Katie blow out her candles. It was really nice to share the moment even though we are so far away.

I would like to say thanks to everyone for the wonderful gifts and showing my child just how spoiled she is to have such great friends and loving family.

Katie if you read this when you are older, I love you with all my heart. You make my heart leap every time you say, “I love you, Mommy.” I never knew I could be so happy as I am when you laugh and smile and hug me like you are never going to let go. Please know no matter how old you ever get you are mommy’s little girl and I love you no matter what! Please forgive me for my short comings and know that I am so glad that you are mine. Love~Mommy

Venting

Seriously I need an attitude adjustment I think. This past week I have had things go wrong or break left and right. Fortunately everything has been fixed rather quickly but it is still frustrating. I’m just sick of it all.

Things that have bugged me this last week:

1. Wednesday I bit into a piece of toast and chipped my molar. I guess it is common during pregnancy but seriously TOAST! I went to the dentist where they put a temporary on my tooth because they needed clearance from my DR to use anesthesia because I’m pregnant.

2. Thursday I went to a meeting at the school and while waiting for Rick to come down and let me in the door Katie started running across the parking lot towards Rick’s truck. As I ran after her (remember I’m 34 weeks pregnant and my daughter is really fast) I stepped wrong off of the bottom stair and hurt my leg and pelvis where it was painful to walk. Luckily I have an amazing hubby who is going to school where he learns how to fix such things.

3. Saturday I went to pick up my food box from the local food co-op only to find that the lady placed 4 holds on my card. This was because the first time she ran the information she received an error code and rather than call and find out what the problem was she just proceeded to run the info 3 more times. Which calculated out to be about $200 additional dollars being held beyond the actual amount I was spending for the food. This wasn’t really a problem it is just annoying that I have to keep an eye on the paperwork to make sure that money is released back to me.

4. Later on Saturday, I went and watched a chick flick with Rick’s mom only to come home late to a broken garage door. There was a large spring in the lifting mechanism that broke in 2 pieces so the door would raise about a foot and then go back down. Once again first thing Monday I called my landlord and within hours he had it fixed and working better than ever.

5. Monday I got my tooth fixed at the dentist but then was numb for 4 hours afterwards and while shopping I found that rural TN/KY is not a candy hotspot. I was looking for RUNTS so I could steal the bananas to put on cupcakes for Katie’s monkey birthday party only to be frustrated when I could not find any in the area. Not really a life or death situation and I was able to find a substitute but it didn’t make me happy. This then put me in a bad mood which made for a rough evening for Rick and Katie. I felt bad too because it was a night after a Test so Rick was free to do whatever because he didn’t need to study and there I was all grumpy.

6. Tuesday I sat down to watch a movie with Katie only to have our Netflix be jumpy and reloading all the time. I finally just shut the movie off and put Katie to bed because it was too hard to follow.

7. Last night Katie woke up at 1:30 am ready to play. She got toys out and finally came got me when she wanted a movie started. I had to put her in bed with us in order for her to go back to sleep because once in her room she wanted to play with her toys instead of staying in bed. This made for a crowded bed and an awkward sleeping position for me. This lead to a pain in my leg that prevented me from sleeping and finally I got up about 6am and iced my leg. Once the pain subsided I was tired and fell back asleep only to have my alarm go off at 8am and I had a Dr appointment scheduled for 8:30.

I scrambled to get Katie up and both of us out of the door. I got to the office by 8:40 which included drive time in a rain storm and dropping Katie off at a friend’s house. The office moved me right along and I was in a patient room waiting to see the Dr by 8:50. At 9:30 the nurse popped in to say that my Dr was on call and had to rush to the hospital to check someone and would be right back. I walked out of the office close to 10:30. Only to have a lifesaver as a friend who continued to watch Katie while I picked up items for her party. She had my daughter all morning and was wonderful to agree to keep her just a little bit longer so I could go to the store without a child in tow.

I got home to find that the rain storm had knocked out the power to our house and in the process our Wii, DVD player and Modem for the internet no longer were working. Funny thing is the XBOX which was plugged into the same power cord was working just fine. I called the internet company and by 6pm they had our internet working once again. Thank goodness. It would be hard to webcam birthday stuff with family if it isn’t working.

I was working on those cupcakes for Katie’s party and burning CDs for the party favor only to hear a loud boom and have our power go off. So now I get to frost a cake by flashlight.

Nothing really happened that I should be upset about. It is just that everything happened within a week of time. All I can say is that I’m really blessed with a loving hubby that puts up with a crazy wife, some excellent friends that are kind and still love me even if I’m not that fun to be around, and a very loving daughter that wants her mommy even if I just yelled at her for nothing because I’m frustrated over something that really isn’t that important or even related. I really should be focusing more on my blessings. The fact that everything has been fixed or has a solution. All of which have come rather promptly. Now where did I put that flashlight?

Crafty

  So my husband didn’t realize that I enjoy doing crafts! He thought I just did them when I needed a gift for someone, if I was bored, or if someone else needed something like him needing his clothes fixed.

No. I’m not about to start an Etsy shop. If I did, crafting would consume my life and too much of anything is not good. I just wanted to show you all a few of the crafts I’ve been working on so you can see that I really do enjoy crafting despite what people might think. (Please forgive me if I ruin any surprises by showing things I plan to give away.)

I made a few fairy tutus. Purple one is for Katie and the orange one is for a gift. It was so much fun seeing Katie dance and spin.

A friend of mine bought a baby sling online and when it came I laughed really because it was so simple. I’ve made a few for a friend and even a sling for Rick’s mom to carry her dog.

I just finished a nursing wrap and have another one almost done.

I’ve made a few play bridal veils for a few of the girls here in TN. I’d show you a picture but I gave them all away for birthday presents. I love this project because I get to be overly girly and the fact that it is just for dress up takes the off the pressure of having it perfect.

Baby Blanket for little boy

I finally finished a table cloth I bought fabric for over a year ago and have kept busy working on arts and crafts projects with Katie. Our favorite is sidewalk chalk and watercolor stamping. I’ve even gotten creative with the food I’ve made including 3 types of sushi.

Katie’s Birthday present included a chair that both Rick and I worked on together. I found it at a garage sell for $5. I then dismantled the entire chair (it took a long time to pull out all the staples, you can see a few in my hand.) Rick then reinforced the frame and panted the wood for me. In the end, I think it turned out really cute!

Things I’m still tackling include a blanket catch for a friend to help secure a blanket while nursing, a few odds and ends for baby boy Jones, and of course Katie’s birthday party stuff. I’ll keep you posted on how they turn out.

Labor Day 2010

 

Ok so I know that I’m a week behind but here is what happened on Labor Day. Harrogate, TN’s big holiday is Labor Day. Who would have thought. They throw a huge party in the park. All the kid rides and bounce houses were free.

This is Katie riding in on Grandpa’s shoulders. She had to wear her new backpack to the event. It had some crackers in it just incase she got hungry.  

She was very patient waiting in line to ride a pony. She had a big grin the entire time we waited. She looked so cute in her sunglasses!        We rode the caboose on the train because Katie said she wanted to ride in the red car.

After hitting a few rides. Katie went with Granny and Grandpa and Rick and I did the loop. Along the way I was able to try Funnel Fries. I think they were better than the regular funnel cake because you get more crispiness this way.

They had a stage set where were were able to listen to some local blue grass bands and Kate was able to pet a snake, a bunny, and a goat.

Later that night we drove up the hill to Rick’s school to watch the fireworks. We ran into the Boyle’s and Katie had a great time playing with their boys Cade and Kayson.       Rick taught Katie the proper way to roll down a hill. She giggled the whole way down and got going pretty fast! Then she sat on daddy’s lap to watch the fireworks. The whole time Katie kept saying “WOW” over and over again. She keeps asking if we can go see more fireworks.
