ROTC 5K

We drove to Cedar City this weekend because Rick had drill. Katie and I came along for the ride because it was Rick's brother Steve's birthday on Friday as well as the ROTC 5K.

We had the opportunity to stay with our friend Nate Caldwell. He is always so nice. In fact he moves out of his own room when we visit and sleeps on the couch. What a nice guy right!

My younger sister Amy lives in Cedar as well so I'm always up for hanging out with her. This time I roped her into paying $10 so she could walk/run 3.1 miles. I'm such a nice sister. Actually it was Amy's first 5K and she didn't do too bad! She could have finished earlier but was nice enough to stay back with Katie. I thought I was going to die prior to the race. You see I haven't really been that dedicated to exercise since Katie's birth. I always find some other way to spend my time instead of working out. I was really surprised to find that by the end of the race I actually passed people and still had some energy. The only shocker is the next day my lower back hurts instead of my legs. Weird huh!

Poor Katie froze during the race. It was chilly that morning and you can see how red her little nose got. After it was all over Amy actually warmed Katie up with her blow dryer.

Easter

I'm not really into giving an Easter basket but I'm a firm believer kids should have a new Sunday outfit for the holiday. Katie looked beautiful in her Easter dress. It was given to her by her great great aunt? (She is my maternal grandfather's sister-in-law so whatever that makes her) What can I say I have a lot of family that lives close! Rick wore his new suit and I put on a bright color to be springy. It was also a wonderful day filled with sunshine. Perfect for some quick pictures before church. In fact it was warm enough we even walked to church. Now that we have snow on our lawn it seems like so long ago.Plus Katie participated in her first egg hunt at grandma's that afternoon. Once she understood that she could not eat the eggs and had to put them in the bag we were on a roll. I would hold her and she would bend down pick up an egg and plop it into daddy's bag. She found a grand total of 23 eggs. Rick and I were happy to eat the candy for her as well.
Katie also was able to wear her new outfit granny Cindy gave her. It came with a little stuffed bunny she loves to gnaw on.

Rick in his Birthday Suit

For Rick's birthday our family chipped in to buy him a new suit. This was a much needed present because his old suit was from his mission. Needless to say it did not fit quite right anymore. Now he looks really sharp. Not only was he able to get a suit but he also purchased a new pair of dress shoes and a tie with his birthday fortune. Thank you to everyone that donated to the cause. My hubby looks great!

Fools day!

So in honor of April fools day I thought I would share with you the true story of how I knew I'd marry Rick someday.

Before I start, I would like to add that snow the first day of April really is a joke!

On this date 5 years ago I was sitting at work calling prospective SUU students when my cell phone started to ring. When I answered it was Rick. I thought he was calling to see if I'd come over after work or something along those lines. Instead in a very sick voice he asked how I was feeling. Confused I asked why. He very slowly explained that he was sick and just wanted to make sure that I was feeling alright and wasn't sick as well. (That is when I started to laugh in my head. Rick never gets sick. Knowing the date I knew it had to be a prank. He did sound convincing though.) After assuring him I felt great he replied with "good" and abruptly got off the phone. Typical Rick.

I sat there confused by the whole conversation. Not knowing if he was really sick or if it was just an elaborate joke I decided to check on him during my break. He lived across the street from campus and I could run over and see him. I thought that if it was a joke then I would catch him off guard and show up when I would normally be working.

So when the time came I raced over to the apartment. The door was opened and as I entered there he was...



truly sick!!! I felt so bad for doubting him. At that time I found out that he probably had food poisoning and really wanted to make sure it wasn't something we had eaten together. I felt like such a shmuck. He didn't even realize it was April Fools. I had to go back to work and so I made sure he was a comfortable as he could be at the time and left.

I couldn't focus at work because I was worried about him. I told my supervisor I was going to take the rest of the night off and rushed back to his apartment. I spent the rest of the night taking care of him. It involved calling his work to make sure they knew he wouldn't be in and even meeting his mom Cindy for the first time.

You see Rick and I had gotten in a fight on his birthday the week before and I was considering ending our relationship because I didn't see the point of us being together. It wasn't until that night that I knew how I cared so deeply for him. Sitting in his apartment holding his head on my lap I knew I'd spend the rest of my life taking care of him and I couldn't be happier.

Granted it took him another 5 months to come to that same conclusion but it was worth the wait.

So five years ago on this date the joke was played on me. I was the fool. Yep that corny old fool that fell in Love!

So Katie turned 1/2 on Rick's birthday. Time really does travel fast I can't believe that my little girl is already 6 months old. We have been really lucky. She hasn't had any major illness, and she is also extremely happy most of the time. At her last Dr.'s apt on the 25th she weighed 13lbs 14 oz and was 25 1/2 inches long. This means that she has pretty much doubled her birth weight and grown 7 inches from birth. She has also started sleeping better. We now get up only 3 times a night (1am 4am and 6am) It is nice because she will go down around 9pm and get up for the day around 8am. I look forward to introducing Katie to new foods. She already likes Mashed potatoes, Refried beans, Grits, Applesauce, graham crackers, and loves great grandpa's homemade Ice Cream.
