Halloween Weekend

We have been busy all weekend. Friday, Katie decided to try a new instrument. She tried playing grandpa’s chanter for his bag pipes.(see video below). It was all fun until she ran and smacked the end of the chanter into the roof of her mouth. After nap we went to the ward truck or treat. Katie had a grin on the entire time. She was so excited to get candy that she probably cleared out the neighboring trunk by herself. She wore a witch costume that my mom sewed together when I was little. The crazy thing is that it still glows in the dark. I’m sorry for the lack of pictures of Brady I wanted to keep him bundled up.

Granny kept Brady nice and bundled in his blanket while I handed out candy. Grandpa and Rick got the joy of doing the loop with Katie.

Saturday we woke to Katie getting the wrapper off some candy. I had put her bucket away and the smarty pants that she is not only found it but crawled up to get it. After cleaning up the wrappers and forcing Katie to once again give up her candy we got ready and headed to the Fall Festival at DCOM. It is hosted by the SAA of which I’m a board member. I wasn’t in charge of anything this year because of baby Brady. It was nice to go and enjoy without the stress, even if we didn’t win anything in the raffle. There was face painting, coloring, a few bean bag tosses, decorating pumpkins, hot coco and apple cider, and of course more candy.

We left Rick at the school to study and picked up granny and grandpa to go check out the pumpkins in Cumberland Gap. We even stopped by the fire station for free hot dogs. I passed up going to the other Halloween extravaganza at LMU because Brady was pretty hungry and I needed Katie to eat something a little more substantial.

I sat down to feed Brady after dinner and was distracted when all of the sudden I heard water in our bathroom. This is what I can upon:

Katie had found my lipstick and smeared it around the bathroom, note her stool. After all of that she wanted to do something nice for mom and clean the toilet for me. It took me a while to clean up after her. It made for an interesting end to a long day. Luckily Rick was nice and took care of the kids before church this morning so I could sleep. The rest of our Halloween will be filled with Rick going to school to study for his test tomorrow and Katie and I watching a movie probably. It was a fun an busy Halloween weekend.

First days!

Having Brady home has been a fun few days. Katie tried to feed Brady some juice the other night. When we told her he couldn’t have juice she asked me for some milk. I pumped her a bottle and she proceeded to feed her brother. Now every night she asks for her juice and his milk.

We took Brady to the park for the first time and he is getting his fill of sports because daddy didn’t have school work over the weekend.

We took the kids to get a few pictures with the fall leaves. It was fun getting out and seeing the colors before they disappear and it gets too cold. We are counting down the days until Grandma (my mom) comes. Katie is really excited and asks every morning if Grandma is coming. I can’t wait to finally tell her yes. In the mean time we have Halloween activities coming up this weekend to help us pass the time.

Baby Boy Brady!!!!

 

Friday I woke up early to use the bathroom…(very common in pregnant women). During which I thought I had a very full bladder and and went back to bed. When I woke up hours later I found that I was a little wet but not enough to think my water broke because I had no contractions. I called Rick at school who was studying for a quiz to ask his opinion on the matter. Due to the stressful nature of med school and the importance of doing well on every exam/quiz Rick suggested I go get checked and then let him know if it was anything important and in the mean time he was going back to studying. This frustrated me!  I just wanted him to take off 1 hr to go with me to the hospital incase I was admitted. I wouldn’t have called if I thought it was minor. So being the obstinate self that I am I refused to go to the hospital and went to see a friend instead. After calming down enough to realize that I really do need to be checked just to be safe, and after receiving a phone call from Rick that was a little more loving, I had my friend run with me to the hospital.

They checked me around 2:30 pm and instantly said that my water had broke and that I was being admitted. They then asked when it broke. I wasn’t totally awake in the wee hours of the morning and so couldn’t give an exact time. Every nurse I saw after that would ask why I didn’t come in earlier. Honestly I didn’t think I was in labor I just thought it might be a possibility. Knowing that I was being admitted I instantly started calling Rick. He didn’t answer so I proceeded to harass his phone. When he finally did call back he informed me that I had called during his quiz and that his leg vibrated the entire time he was trying to focus. In the end he just skipped a few questions in order to finish earlier because he knew at that point something was up.

At 4:30 they  hooked me up to some Pitocin because I was not contracting. Rick sat and studied while I watched some TV. Needless to say it wasn’t that eventful. During this time we also discussed the fact that we still didn’t have a name and should probably work on that. 8:50pm we finally decided on a name. 9:20 I was complete. I had to wait for a contraction so I could push, even with Pitocin I still wasn’t contracting. Finally the nurse palpated my stomach to help trigger a contraction and 3 pushes later at 9:39 we had a baby. During the last push baby boy decided he wanted out and stuck his arm up to help pull himself out. Silly Boy. He was ready…. even if mommy’s body wasn’t.

Brady Engle Jones

7lbs 2oz, 20 in

He has brown hair with blond highlights. He was born with really long nails too. If you are wondering Engle is my mother’s maiden name so it is in the family.
