School’s out for Summer!

  Rick’s classes ended last week and we didn’t want to waste a single minute of free time. We loaded into the car and drove to Gatlinburg, TN for a school related conference and a little R&R. We had a great time playing with friends at our cabin, did a bunch of shopping, and took Katie to the aquarium. We had a such a good time we can’t wait to do it again soon.

We drove home to a blistering house. Our AC was broke and at 9pm it was 85 degrees in our house. We ran the fans all night and left for Lexington in the morning. Hopefully our landlord will have it fixed before we get back from Utah.

Katie watched a movie on the ride to Lexington, KY and travelled great. We stopped to buy some sandwiches  and the cashier asked if he could buy Katie a cookie because she was so cute. We hopped on our first flight and Katie shouted “WEEE!” All through take off. She then settled down and even took a nap. We landed in Dallas and headed for the USO. (For all our military friends it is always worth having a layover in Dallas just for the USO. It is so nice. It has a kids area with toys and movies, a sleep area, they provide diapers in their bathroom, have a rocking chair and high chair for smaller children, you can play some foosball upstairs, use the internet, and they provide all sorts of food for free.) After we left and caught our next flight. During which Katie watched another movie. She even used the potty on the airplane. (Potty training is going well.) We flew into the snow capped mountains of Utah right over my parents house. We could have parachuted into the neighborhood. Katie went running to my mom after we landed and was exhausted by the time we drove another hour to get to my parents house. It was so nice to finally have our 14 hour day over.
